I remember a while back it being discussed if a working one could be obtained it might be possible to reverse engineer it and pull the software off it to use to fix the bricked ones, but can't find the original post...

You are watching: Pip boy deluxe bluetooth edition fix

Hence this post, figured it would be worth posting to see if any of the Fallout fan's who also happen to be into Raspberry Pi/Python people who might be interested in seeing if it was possible.

Will admit it's for personal gain, as I also have a non-functional Pip-Boy 3000 MK IV I got off craigtslist forever ago, suffering from one of the many boot up related bugs that plagued the production of the ThinkGeek line, and would love to get it working, or maybe find a way to make it work with the Pipboy App Bethesda abandoned...

my boyfriend has been slowly working his way through the code of one of our pipboys. so far we've learned that the OS is SAM-BA software, which isn't too much of a surprise considering that it's running off of one of Atmel's boards. So it's a UNIX environment with layers of BS over-complicating it.

Is he fluent in these languages, not really; but we're still working on it.-----------------AND He managed to get through and copy the files to his computer right after I posted this.

Sorry I've not responded sooner, been off of doyourpartparks.org due to a complete lack of free time during this whole Covid-19 Crisis (No surprise having the wife and kiddo home means very little free time).

That is AWESOME!

Curious if it's going to be possible to fully decompile what is on the Pipboys to either allow updating so they function with the new version of the game and/or adding new features.

Unrelated/Related:

I have (1) Bricked / non-booting Pipboy I'd love to see if it would be possible to refresh the OS on to see if it will restore it and I managed to get (2) Additional broken/damaged Pipboy's that either have missing parts or screen damage but boot, so have some spare parts laying around now, let me know if I can help in any way.

Is there anyway I can get a copy of those files, please. My friend is fluent with it's languages and might be able to help as well. Thanks for your help.

Can you explain the bug you are running into? I haven't been able to find any technical specs regarding it. I don't know if it is just a Raspberry Pi like device, something running a modified version of Android with the Pipboy app, or something entirely different

Edit: According to a post here it is likely something of it's own if you wanted to you could likely gut it and fit a Raspberry Pi but you would lose most of it's unique functionality

So I have one that hangs at the "Initializing" Screen, which appears to be the most common problem, they halt part way into booting due to one error or another, but it's impossible to reload the OS because it wasn't released and ThinkGeek claims to have no access
