At my wits end here. Trying to come back to the game after a long break. Have tried it both on Steam (own it there) and GamePass. This is a fresh install on both.

You are watching: No mans sky crashes on startup

Briefly opens, displays "Hello Games" and then crashes to desktop. No error message. Have googled all over and tried everything I've seen.

A quick rundown:

Updated to latest Nvidia drivers (461.72) - doesn't work.

Changed resolution to 1080p (1920x1080) - doesn't work.

Tried 60hz - doesn't work.

Reinstalled on each platform (gamepass & steam) multiple times - doesn't work.

On Steam - doesn't work.

On GamePass - doesn't work.

**Specs:**Nvidia 1080ti running Nvidia 461.72

Intel i7 7700K

Latest Windows 10 updates installed

I can play it on Xbox Series X fine, but am trying to give my girlfriend her console back & thought I'd switch to PC. Please help :}.

Update:

Turned off Nvidia & discord overlays - doesn't work

Turned off Game Mode (Windows 10 settings) - doesn't work

UPDATE2, SOLUTION

You need to stop the windows audio service before launching the game, to do so:

press windows+r

type services.msc

look for Windows Audio

Right click on it -> stop

As soon as the game is launched you can restart the service by right-clicking on it -> start, and you'll be able to enjoy the sweet sounds of Update4

Try turning off Windows game mode (you'll find it in settings by clicking the cog wheel & selecting gaming). Some games perform/run better with this off.

How much RAM do you have btw? Are you running anything else in the background that might be memory, CPU hungry or causing a conflict?

I'm on same CPU in native configuration (no overclock), a GTX 1070 & 32gb ram, Windows game mode off - my game has had just one in game crash in about 230hrs of play.

Thanks for your response :}

I'll try turning off Windows Game Mode & report back.

I have 16GB of RAM and opened the game on PC bootup with nothing else except startup service stuff running. I have no problems with any other games either. I didn't have any problems on the same machine back in 2019 either when I used to play NMS.

A random thought - maybe it's related to the transition to Vulkan (update)? However, I see that GeForce packages Vulkan in their generic Game Ready Driver packages so I'm pretty sure I have it already.

Man, I'm jealous. I hope I can figure this out!

Unfortunately turning off Game Mode didn't make a difference :{.
